According to official figures, the United Kingdom imported no fuel from Russia in June for the first time in history.

Imports from Russia fell to £33 million in June, the lowest level since records began in January 1997, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February, Western nations have imposed severe sanctions.

The United Kingdom has pledged to phase out Russian oil imports by the end of the year, as well as gas imports as soon as possible.

Fuel imports from Russia fell by £499 million, or 100%, compared to the previous year's average in February. 

In 2021, the UK imported around 4% of its gas from Russia, and 11% of its oil, according to the International Energy Agency.
