Sharjah to Auction Unclaimed Impounded Vehicles After 3-Month Deadline

  • 02/09/2025

Sharjah authorities have announced a new regulation stating that vehicles impounded by police following traffic accidents will be sold at public auction if their owners do not reclaim them within a three-month period. This policy update is part of an amendment to Resolution No. (3) of 2016 and was approved during a recent meeting of the Sharjah Executive Council.

The auction process will commence three months after the official closure of the traffic accident file or following the issuance of a judicial ruling, which will be coordinated with the Public Prosecution. To retrieve a seized vehicle before the deadline, owners are obligated to pay a redemption fee, which can range from 5,000 to 30,000 dirhams.

Officials emphasized that this measure is designed to improve the handling of seized vehicles and contribute to the emirate's overall traffic safety standards. Residents are strongly urged to adhere to legal procedures promptly to avoid losing their vehicles and to prevent incurring additional costs.
