Kuwait City: On Tuesday, Kuwait's environmental protection agency and a local research institute agreed to activate an early warning system to prevent clumps of dead fish coming ashore in territorial seas, which are frequently caused by a deadly algal bloom.

According to EPA chief Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah, the agreement between the Environment Public Authority (EPA) and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) is a significant environment conservation initiative, primarily consisting of a "early warning system" for any increases in algae populations on Kuwait waters.

The agreement is the latest in a long line of collaborations between the two Kuwaiti bodies, all of which aim to protect Kuwait's environment from potential threats, according to KISR acting director general Dr. Mane Al-Sdairawi, who praised the initiative as a step toward preserving the country's marine ecosystem.
