Kuwait City, Jan 25: Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Hepatologist Dr Waha Al Hash Haash said that 30% of diabetics patients in the country suffer from small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. The above figure of 30% corresponds to about 340,000 diabetics. Elderly people are more prone to this disease due to the changes in stomach acid level. Al Hash Haash said that most of them are taking medications that increase the risk of contracting the disease. SIB occurs when there is an abnormal increase in the total number of bacteria in the small intestine. If affected by SIB, feeding becomes more stagnant. With this, the possibility of bacterial reproduction is very high. Gas and diarrhea are the main signs and symptoms of this.
