Kuwait ranks 2nd among the Gulf nations in the establishment of stem cell transplant program

Kuwait City, Jan 25: Dr. Mishaal Al-Kandari, Assistant Undersecretary for Dental Affairs at the Ministry of Health, stated that Kuwait ranks second among the Arab Gulf nations in the establishment of a stem cell transplant program for children since October 2020. In a speech he gave at the second Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Conference, Dr. Al-Kandari stated the success of the stem cell program that have resulted in 33 stem cell transplants for children from the same donor.

Dr. Al-Sharida, Head of the Department of Hematology, Pediatric Cancer, Stem Cell Transplantation said that since the stem cell program's inception more than two years ago, 33 operations have been completed, which include four cases of autologous transplantation and 29 cases of a complete match donor or a half match for patients with cancerous and non-cancerous diseases like blood disorders and immunodeficiencies.
