Riyadh: As the Hajj season approaches, Saudi Arabia’s General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars has issued an important religious ruling, emphasizing that performing Hajj without obtaining the proper permit is considered a sin and the pilgrimage will not be rewarded.

Council Secretary General Sheikh Dr. Fahd bin Saad Al-Majid stressed that obtaining an official permit is mandatory for anyone intending to perform Hajj. He noted that this fatwa is based on strong Islamic teachings aimed at easing religious obligations for believers and preventing hardship.

The implementation of the Hajj permit system is also crucial to managing the large number of pilgrims safely and peacefully, and to avoid potential disasters. The Council reiterated that Hajj is obligatory only for those who are financially and physically capable, and it must be performed through legal and authorized means.

As preparations for the Hajj season continue, authorities announced that starting Tuesday, April 29, Saudi citizens, residents, GCC nationals, and visa holders inside the Kingdom will not be able to obtain Umrah permits via the Nusuk platform. This year's Hajj season is expected to begin on June 6, 2025.
