Doha: The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar has issued detailed health guidelines and a list of mandatory vaccinations for pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj this year. The initiative underscores the ministry’s commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of Hajj pilgrims from Qatar.

To reduce the risks and complications of infectious diseases and to enable pilgrims to safely fulfill their religious obligations, the ministry has made the quadrivalent meningococcal (ACWY-135) vaccine mandatory for all pilgrims. Additionally, the COVID-19 vaccine is mandatory for certain high-risk groups including those above 65, pregnant women, individuals with chronic heart or lung diseases, kidney failure, genetic blood disorders like sickle cell anemia and thalassemia, immunodeficiencies, and neurological conditions.

All pilgrims aged 18 and above are strongly recommended to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and the ministry also advises taking the seasonal influenza vaccine. The required vaccines are available across Qatar’s Primary Health Care Centers (PHCC), and the ministry urges pilgrims to complete the vaccinations at least 10 days before departure to Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Hamad Eid Al Rumaihi, Director of Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control at the ministry, emphasized the importance of preventive measures to mitigate risks from infections spread through direct contact or contaminated surfaces. He also advised individuals with chronic conditions to consult doctors before traveling and ensure they carry adequate medication for the entire trip.

He added that this initiative aligns with Qatar’s National Health Strategy 2024–2030. In collaboration with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), the ministry has also released a “Pilgrims’ Health Guide” outlining essential pre- and post-Hajj health precautions.

For more information, the ministry has advised contacting the health sector call center at 16000 or visiting the official website to access the Hajj Health Guide.
