MASSIVE TRAFFIC DELAYS ON A MAJOR ABU DHABI HIGHWAY

Abu Dhabi: On a major Abu Dhabi road, motorists suffered significant delays on Saturday. Lanes on the E10 expressway, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, were closed in both directions, causing considerable traffic delays. On its social media website, Abu Dhabi Police reported "traffic congestion and [an] impediment" and stated vehicles were being rerouted. 


The delays began around 2 p.m. According to Google Maps, traffic was backed up all the way back to the Maqta Bridge on the approach to Abu Dhabi, and all the way back to the Sheikh Zayed Tunnel in the opposite direction.

Drivers stated it took an hour to get from Reem Island to Bateen Airport, which normally takes 15 minutes. By sunset, the traffic had mostly cleared, and the route was open in both directions.
