Water train to reach UAE from Mumbai under water in 2 hours

Dubai: Imagine traveling from Mumbai to the UAE underwater in just two hours. The UAE's National Advisor Bureau (NAB) has proposed a futuristic underwater train connecting Mumbai and Fujairah. Designed to travel at high speeds ranging from 600 km/h to 1000 km/h, this concept aims to revolutionize transportation and trade between India and the UAE.

The underwater train would not only carry passengers but also transport cargo, including crude oil from Fujairah to India and fresh water from India to the UAE. This project could provide a faster and more efficient alternative to air travel and significantly strengthen trade ties between the two countries.

NAB Chief Consultant Abdullah Al Shehi has stated that, if approved, the project could become a reality by 2030. The travel time, which currently takes around four hours by air, could be reduced to two hours with the implementation of this underwater rail. The design of the train is also being developed to allow passengers to enjoy views of the deep sea during their journey.

While the project is still at the conceptual stage, NAB sources confirmed that feasibility studies, engineering assessments, and environmental evaluations will follow once initial approvals are granted. The estimated cost runs into billions of dollars due to the complexity of the technical and engineering work involved.

Possible route extensions include Karachi in Pakistan and Muscat in Oman, potentially connecting the entire Gulf region with the Indian subcontinent. The train will travel through submerged concrete tunnels located 20 to 30 meters below the Arabian Sea, designed to withstand high pressure and ensure safety.

For now, the underwater train remains a bold vision of the future — one that could transform regional connectivity and redefine transportation between Asia and the Middle East.
