Dubai is set to welcome Baidu’s Apollo Go driverless taxis, marking the company's first international venture beyond China and Hong Kong. In collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the rollout of autonomous taxis is scheduled to begin testing in 2025, with full operations expected by 2026.

The Apollo Go service will use the RT6 model, a vehicle purpose-built for autonomous mobility. Each car will be equipped with 40 advanced sensors and detectors to ensure maximum safety and full automation.

According to RTA officials, the initial testing phase will include 50 vehicles for data collection and evaluation, before scaling up to 100 autonomous taxis in 2025. The initiative plans to expand to a fleet of 1,000 driverless vehicles within the next three years.

Apollo Go has already completed over 10 million driverless taxi trips and more than 150 million kilometers of safe driving, making it the world’s largest operator of autonomous taxis.

Matar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA’s Executive Board of Directors, highlighted that the city’s goal is to convert 25% of all transportation trips to autonomous mode by 2030. Dubai has been testing driverless technology since 2016, and this collaboration represents a major step in its smart mobility journey.
