Sharjah Police Waives 600,000 Old Traffic Violations to Ease Motorists’ Burden

Sharjah: Sharjah Police has announced that more than 600,000 traffic violations, dating back over 10 years, will be waived if certain conditions are met.

This move follows a directive from the Sharjah Executive Council aimed at resolving long-standing traffic issues and encouraging the renewal of outdated vehicle registrations. According to officials, there are currently over 44,000 vehicles in Sharjah with expired registrations. Vehicle owners are urged to clear their overdue fines.

Colonel Mohammed Alaa Al Naqbi, Director-General of the Traffic and Patrol Department, explained that motorists must pay an application fee of Dh1,000 to apply for the exemption. However, no fee will be charged if the vehicle owner has died, lived abroad continuously for more than 10 years, or if the vehicle is abandoned and the owner cannot be reached.

Additionally, motorists with total fines less than Dh1,000 are exempted from the application fee. Colonel Al Naqbi also emphasized that outstanding traffic fines must be cleared before a motorist can register or renew any vehicle, as fines are linked to the individual's traffic record, not just a specific vehicle.

The decision to waive the old fines was made during a Sharjah Executive Council meeting chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice-Chairman of the Council.
