Dubai: A recent study by Checkout, a global financial technology leader, reveals that more than half of UAE consumers regularly use online shopping platforms, with nearly half relying on these platforms to make better purchasing decisions. While many still browse products in-store, most shoppers now complete purchases online using apps and websites.
The report highlights a growing reliance on AI-driven tools such as visual search, virtual try-ons, and intelligent chatbots, positioning the UAE as a leader in digital retail innovation. Around 37% of consumers in the country use visual search AI to enhance shopping efficiency, and AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants are more widely used in the UAE than in many other markets.
Remo Giovanni, General Manager of Checkout MENA, credited the UAE government's support in building a secure and convenient digital ecosystem, which has enabled rapid adoption of advanced technologies.
Additionally, the report notes a significant shift in consumer behavior, with 62% of respondents planning to increase their online shopping in the next year. The popularity of cash-on-delivery has dropped by 53% since 2020, as buyers are drawn to the low prices, diverse product range, and ease of digital transactions.
