Dubai: With Eid al-Adha approaching, Dubai Municipality has taken strict action against illegal slaughterhouses, reinforcing hygiene protocols and public health measures. Officials have banned unregulated slaughtering practices, warning of the serious health risks posed by unscreened meat.
Health experts cautioned that consuming meat from animals not tested for diseases can lead to severe illnesses such as anthrax, Q fever, brucellosis, toxoplasmosis, bovine tuberculosis, and salmonella. The authorities highlighted that turning homes or public spaces into makeshift slaughterhouses could pose major health risks.
Residents are urged to use only municipality-approved slaughterhouses, which follow all necessary veterinary and preventive measures.
Additionally, psychiatrist Dr. Waleed Al-Omr advised that children under the age of seven should not witness animal slaughter due to potential psychological impact.
Municipal teams have ramped up inspections across the UAE to prevent illegal slaughter and ensure all facilities comply with safety guidelines. Buyers are also cautioned to avoid animals showing signs of illness or physical defects.
These measures aim to safeguard public health and uphold religious practices in a safe, hygienic manner during Eid celebrations.
