Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, officially launched the construction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line by laying the foundation stone for its first station on Monday.
The new metro line, which will span 30 kilometers—15.5 km underground and 14.5 km above ground—will add 14 new stations to the city’s network and is backed by an investment of AED 56 billion. Once complete, it will bring the total length of Dubai’s rail network to 131 kilometers with 78 stations.
Designed to connect major residential and commercial hubs, the Blue Line will serve areas including Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 and 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Dubai Festival City. It will also provide direct access to Dubai International Airport and integrate with existing metro lines at key points like Creek Station (Green Line) and Centrepoint Station (Red Line).
Sheikh Mohammed described the new station as a future architectural icon and reaffirmed Dubai’s vision of building a global model city with sustainable and smart infrastructure. Since its launch, the Dubai Metro has carried over 2.5 billion passengers, with an average daily ridership of 900,000. The Blue Line is expected to further enhance mobility, sustainability, and urban development across the emirate.
