Dubai is set to elevate its urban transport system with the introduction of the Dubai Metro Blue Line, a 30-kilometer extension that connects the existing Green and Red Metro lines. Announced by the Ruler of Dubai during the foundation stone ceremony, the Blue Line will be completed within four years and is expected to significantly boost public transportation efficiency and reduce traffic congestion by 20% in the areas it serves.
The Blue Line will feature 14 stations across two routes:
Route 1 (21 km) begins at Creek Station on the Green Line and passes through key areas such as Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Ras Al Khor, International City 1, 2, and 3, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Academic City.
Route 2 (9 km) connects Centrepoint Station on the Red Line with Mirdif and Al Warqa, ending at International City 1 Interchange Station.
Strategically designed, the Blue Line will connect nine major areas including Dubai International Airport, with travel times ranging between 10 and 25 minutes. The new route supports growing areas such as Dubai Academic City, which is projected to serve over 50,000 students by 2029.
The metro line will feature nine elevated and five underground stations, all equipped with modern facilities like electric scooter racks, EV charging stations, taxi stands, and drop-off zones. With a projected daily capacity of over 850,000 passengers and an expected daily ridership increase to 320,000 by 2040, the Blue Line will be a cornerstone of Dubai’s vision for sustainable, smart mobility.
