Dubai International Airport (DXB) has announced a major technological upgrade, with plans to install advanced 3D baggage scanners across all its terminals by May 2026. The new scanners, which are already being implemented in Terminal 3, will eliminate the need for passengers to remove laptops and liquids from their carry-on luggage during security screening. According to airport officials, this innovation will not only speed up the process but also enhance security by creating highly detailed 3D images of bag contents.
This initiative is a key part of the airport's broader strategy to integrate smart technologies and alleviate congestion. In addition to the scanners, Dubai Airports is deploying AI systems to forecast passenger traffic 24 hours in advance, allowing for more efficient staff allocation. Furthermore, the airport is introducing biometric "red carpet" corridors in Terminal 3, which will enable arriving passengers to clear immigration in seconds without presenting physical documents.
These comprehensive upgrades are critical for managing the airport's growing passenger traffic, which is projected to reach 96 million by 2025. The Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, Majid Al Joker, emphasized that the new 3D scanners will significantly reduce waiting times while maintaining the highest security standards, ensuring a more seamless and efficient travel experience for all passengers.
