New RTA Bridge Slashes Travel Time to Mall of the Emirates from Sheikh Zayed Road

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Majid Al Futtaim, has inaugurated a new 300-meter single-lane bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road. The bridge is designed to handle up to 900 vehicles per hour, providing a direct route for motorists arriving from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to enter the Mall of the Emirates car parks directly, bypassing previous congestion points.

The comprehensive project involved more than just the bridge. It also included widening ramps at the Umm Suqeim junction, upgrading 2.5 km of surrounding roads, and improving six signalized intersections. Additionally, pedestrian walkways and cycling tracks were enhanced, and the road near the Kempinski Hotel was converted to two-way traffic to improve overall traffic flow and safety in the area.

According to RTA Director General Mattar Al Tayer, the primary benefit of the new infrastructure is a dramatic reduction in travel time. The journey for vehicles from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to the mall has been cut from approximately 10 minutes down to just one minute. This initiative is part of the RTA's broader strategy to collaborate with developers and continuously enhance road network infrastructure to serve Dubai's growing communities and commercial centers.
