Abu Dhabi Police have successfully recovered 140 million dirhams that had been stolen through various online fraud schemes, returning the substantial sum to the affected victims. This achievement was announced in the context of a growing digital fraud threat, with authorities having handled over 15,600 cybercrime cases in the past two years. The announcement was made by senior police officials at a press conference, highlighting the force's intensified efforts to combat cybercriminals.
Alongside the financial recovery, the police have launched a comprehensive public awareness campaign named "Be Careful." The campaign is designed to educate the public about the latest methods used by cyber-fraudsters, with the goal of building trust in government e-services and supporting the National Cyber Security Strategy. It specifically warns against nine common types of fraud, including phone scams, fake investment schemes, and fraudulent property deals.
The primary objective of these combined enforcement and educational initiatives is to ensure community safety in the digital space. By promoting preventative measures and empowering residents with knowledge, authorities aim to protect the public from increasingly sophisticated online threats. This holistic approach tackles cybercrime both by bringing perpetrators to justice and by preventing citizens from becoming victims in the first place.
