Teaching methods are being modernized in the UAE with the launch of a special AI training program for educators. The initiative, named "Afaq: Empowering Educators with AI Technologies," is a collaboration between the UAE Ministry of Education and the Emirates College for Advanced Education.

This project is designed to provide teachers with the knowledge and tools required to create innovative and personalized educational content. The training offers practical skills for effectively integrating artificial intelligence into modern classrooms. A key goal is to develop a new generation of teachers who can use emerging technologies to improve curriculum, assessment, and student interaction. The first phase will involve 500 teachers learning the fundamentals of AI and its educational applications.

Officials emphasized that AI should be viewed as a supportive tool for teachers, not a replacement. Its role is to enhance students' critical thinking, creativity, and overall skills. The training coincides with the introduction of a new AI curriculum, reflecting a broader effort to align teaching methods with global technological progress.

The Ministry is optimistic that preparing teachers to use smart technologies will increase the quality of education as AI's influence grows. Potential benefits include using AI to identify students needing extra help, making learning more engaging with augmented and virtual reality, and improving language and communication skills. The program also highlights the importance of protecting student data. While proper training is essential for effective AI use, teachers are cautioned that over-reliance on the technology could reduce valuable human interaction in the classroom.
