In a move to safeguard Dubai's heritage, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has established the "Al Maktoum Archives." The institution was officially inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai. It will function under the supervision of Sheikh Mohammed's Executive Office.
The archives will serve as a comprehensive national repository, collecting biographies, literary works, and historical collections. Its purpose is to document the role of Dubai's rulers in the city's transformation into a global hub and to present their intellectual and humanitarian legacy to the world. Sheikh Mohammed described the archives as an "open book" on Dubai's governance, offering insights into leadership and development. He stated it would be a key resource for understanding the qualities of those who served the nation and emphasized that preserving this heritage is a duty to future generations.
The launch event featured a documentary, "Rashid the Leader," and displayed historical items, including the Al Maktoum family tree and previously unseen photographs. The institution will train national experts and act as a primary source for researchers studying Dubai's leadership and social history.
To formalize its structure, Sheikh Mohammed issued a decree establishing the foundation's Board of Directors. The board will be chaired by the Chairman of the Executive Office and include other senior officials. Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr commented that Dubai's story is not just one of economic success, but a humanitarian narrative of rulers dedicated to public service.
