EXCEPT FOR OMAN, TODAY IS RAMADAN ONE ACROSS GULF COUNTRIES

Riyadh : Ramadan begins on Saturday, April 2, in all Gulf countries except Oman, following the appearance of the new moon. The ministries of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain have declared Ramadan today, following the appearance of the new moon yesterday. Meanwhile, the Oman Waqf Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced that Ramadan fasting will begin in Oman on Sunday, April 3. 


The ministry said in a statement that the new moon was not visible anywhere in the country. Today marks the beginning of the new month of Ramadan in other parts of the Gulf. These countries had set up extensive systems to monitor the birth of the 29th of Sha'ban yesterday. The ministries also called on the people to observe the new moon. 

The Saudi Ministry of Ufa said that extensive facilities have been set up in mosques and other places to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. Prayers and Iftar dinners, including Taraweeh, have been allowed in all mosques in the wake of the Covid outbreak. The ministry also said that churches have provided facilities for women to pray. Saudi ruler King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman wished everyone a happy Ramadan Mubarak.

The Moon Sighting Committee in the UAE today declared Ramadan as one. The decision was taken at a committee meeting of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department in the wake of reports of menstrual cramps in various parts of the country. Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Mosque has announced the start of the holy month of Ramadan by firing artillery shells. Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed has wished all the people of the country a happy Ramadan. 

Two years after the Covid epidemic, believers are enjoying a return to Ramadan this year with night prayers in Taraweeh, Itikaf in mosques, Iftar tents and Iftar dinners in mosques. All Gulf countries have allowed prayers, including night prayers, subject to conditions. However, the ban on Iftar dinners in mosques in Kuwait will remain in place for the time being.
