Abu Dhabi: A major breakthrough in Middle East diplomacy has been reached, with Iran and Israel officially confirming a ceasefire, bringing an end to a 12-day conflict that had threatened regional stability.
The ceasefire announcement came late Monday, with former U.S. President Donald Trump posting on Truth Social that both nations had agreed to halt hostilities. According to his message, the truce would begin in phases—Iran initiating the ceasefire, followed by Israel, with the war officially concluding after 24 hours. Trump called the agreement a result of "Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence" from both countries and expressed hope that it would mark the start of lasting peace.
Iran acknowledged Qatar's mediation in facilitating the deal, a move confirmed by both Tehran and Tel Aviv. The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) announced that the country's airspace was reopened at 2:45 AM on Tuesday, after coordination with security and aviation bodies to ensure safe conditions.
In a post on social media platform X, QCAA praised the collaborative efforts of various government agencies in quickly restoring safe air travel. CNN reported that Kuwait and Bahrain followed suit shortly after, lifting their airspace restrictions as well.
This development not only brings a fragile calm to a volatile situation but also reopens key regional air corridors, a move welcomed by travelers and airlines alike.
