Sharjah Implements Dedicated Lanes for Motorcycles, Trucks, and Buses from November 1

Sharjah Police, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), will implement a new dedicated lane system for specific vehicles starting November 1st. The reform mandates that large vehicles like trucks, trailers, and buses must use the right-hand lane. Motorcycles are also assigned specific lanes: the third and fourth lanes from the right on four-lane roads, the middle and last two lanes on three-lane roads, and only the right-hand lane on two-lane roads.

The primary goal of this initiative is to enhance traffic safety and facilitate smoother traffic flow across the emirate. To ensure compliance, the authorities will use smart surveillance cameras and have announced that signage will be installed to clearly mark the permitted lanes for each vehicle type. This move follows a similar recent regulation in Dubai that banned delivery bikes from high-speed lanes.

Strict penalties will be imposed on violators to enforce the new rules. Drivers of heavy vehicles who fail to follow the dedicated lane rules will face a fine of 1,500 dirhams and 12 black points on their traffic record. Other traffic violations related to this new system will incur a 500 dirham fine.
