Muscat: Oman’s tallest flagpole, and the country’s tallest man-made structure to date, will be inaugurated next month, according to Muscat Municipality Chairman Ahmed Al Humaidi. The 126-meter-high structure is located in Al Khuwair Square in the Ministries District and is part of a major development project in collaboration with the private sector, with a total investment of $10 million.
The iron structure, equivalent in height to a 40-story building, used 135 tons of steel. The flagpole has a base diameter of 28 meters, narrowing to 0.9 meters at the top. It will display an Omani flag measuring 18 meters by 31.5 meters and includes an aircraft warning light system for safety.
The surrounding area, spanning over 18,000 square meters, will include recreational features such as grassy lawns, palm trees, walkways, cycling tracks, an outdoor exhibition space, and a skateboarding area.
