Doha: A 50-year-old expatriate resident of Qatar has been diagnosed with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). The revelation comes from the Ministry of Public Health. Authorities said the man was in direct contact with the camels. The patient is being monitored at the hospital.

Those in close contact with the patient were also examined. None of them had MERS symptoms but were monitored for 14 days according to national protocol. Authorities said they had taken the necessary precautions and preventive measures to prevent the spread of MERS. Although it causes the corona virus, it is different from the Covid-19 virus.

The two viruses differ in the source, mode of spread, and severity of the infection. The ministry reminded the public, especially those with chronic diseases and immunodeficiency disabilities, to take public hygiene measures.

Always keep your hands clean with soap and water or use hand sanitizer and take precautions to avoid contact with camels. If you have any symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath, seek medical attention immediately.
