Saudi Arabia is developing a permanent museum dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah. The project, supervised by Prince Faisal bin Salman as chairman of the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives, aims to create a comprehensive knowledge repository documenting the historical evolution of Islamic pilgrimage and the holy sites.
The initiative operates under the patronage of King Salman with support from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, transforming what was initially conceived as an academic encyclopedia into a physical museum. The High Supervisory Committee includes prominent Islamic scholars and officials including Sheikh Dr. Salih bin Humaid, Imam of the Grand Mosque, and Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League.
This museum will chronicle major transformations in Hajj and Umrah services across centuries while preserving the cultural and religious heritage associated with the Two Holy Mosques. The project represents a significant effort to document and showcase the rich history of Islamic pilgrimage for both current and future generations of Muslims worldwide.
