Saudi Arabia Simplifies Final Exit for Undocumented and Overstaying Residents

  • 04/10/2025

Saudi Arabia has launched a new, simplified procedure to help undocumented residents, including those without a valid residency permit (Iqama) or those with an expired one, to leave the country legally. This initiative by the Ministry of Human Resources provides a direct pathway for individuals to obtain a final exit visa without the need for their sponsor's involvement, a significant change from previous, more complex processes.

To utilize this system, individuals can apply directly through the Ministry of Human Resources website or by visiting a local Labor Office. This new method bypasses the earlier requirement to register through an embassy portal, which often resulted in long waiting periods. However, applicants must resolve any outstanding legal issues, such as travel bans, active court cases, or unpaid traffic fines, before their application can be approved.

Social activists are urging expatriates who are currently stranded due to their legal status to take full advantage of this opportunity. The new procedure is designed to offer a safe and legal route for return, providing significant relief to those who were previously unable to leave the country.
